"Turandot" by G. Puccini, staged by the Lviv National Opera, takes its audience to the times of ancient China, when the Great Wall of China was being built and the legendary Terracotta army was created to protect the empire in the real world and afterlife. In the performance, over a hundred petrified figures of the Terracotta army embody eyewitnesses, whose empathy is somehow only aroused by the tragedy at the end of the opera.

Cold and impregnable, with unearthly beauty, the Chinese princess Turandot will marry the one who can guess her three riddles. So far, no one has succeeded: dozens of princes were expected to be executed as soon as the pale moon rose. The Tatar prince Calaf appears in the crowd in front of the imperial palace. He has just found his father, the dethroned king of the Tartars, who was supported throughout his exile by his faithful slave Liu. The prince gave Liu a short smile once, and since then the girl has loved him tenderly...

The past, family and devotion - all this fades before the captivating beauty of Turandot. The prince is blinded by the desire for love. Will he be able to guess the riddle of Turandot and why the victory will turn into a horror, that will dispel the illusions of passion? You will find this out in the spectacular staging of the opera "Turandot" by G. Puccini at the Lviv National Opera, whose artists will be guests at the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz during the XXX Bydgoszcz Opera Festival.

New Dimensions of Dance and Music

Two female and two male dancers engage in an extraordinary dialogue with a soloist playing the viola da gamba, creating the performance “Phénix”, in which we witness an unexpected encounter between hip-hop dance and the sound of an ancient instrument. The uniqueness of this combination is further highlighted by occasional electro sounds, inspired by the music of J. S. Bach.
