about

Mourad Merzouki’s performances prepare us for immediate joy, both because they capture the interest of the viewers, and because they invite them to immerse themselves in poetry, each according to his own will. Folia belongs to this world and enchantment is its sacred spirit. Here, dance becomes a beautiful mosaic, with new synergies emerging from the mixtures of hip-hop and baroque music, the Italian tarantella and electronic music, classical ballet and whirling dervishes. These new hybrid artistic forms are as unexpected as they are immediately popular: a journey from the South of Italy to the New World, in which the dancers of the Käfig company make a journey with the musicians of the baroque ensemble Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu directed by Franck-Emmanuel Comte, from the notes of Vivaldi to the electronic sounds of Grégoire Durrande. The choreographer takes the audience by the hand and drags it into a vortex of wonder: a crescendo of emotions that morphs into a spiral of energy. And when the madness subsides, snow falls on a whirling dervish as the voice of a soprano fills the space with her luminous tone. Mourad Merzouki’s ballet is a very real utopia, born from the intersection between disciplines that are apparently incompatible, whose unusual combination gives grace to alchemy.

Why do I go to the opera?

"Because for me it is always a celebration, during which you can meet the spirit of the operatic past, its present and you get a chance to run into its future" - writes Ilona Słojewska in the pages of Dziennik Teatralny Kujawy on the occasion of World Opera Day 2024. Because every opera performance is a uniquely constructed work, in which the voice and music give so many emotions that whenever you pass by its building, you feel the vibrations, for which you could visit it every day. And if,...
