Leszek Skrla

He graduated with distinction from Faculty of Vocal and Acting at Academy of Music in Gdańsk. His teachers was Andrzej Kosecki and Piotr Kusiewicz. In 1987 he was awarded at A. Dvořak XXII International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary and in the next year at Ada Sari Vocal Competition in Nowy Sącz.

He debuted at Baltic Opera’s stage in Gdańsk as Figaro in Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”. Since season 1988/89 he is one of the most significant soloist at Baltic Opera. He often performs as a soloist in oratorio concerts not only in Poland, but all over the Europe (Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel).
He was working with famous conductors such as: J. Maksymiuk, M. Pijarowski, J. Salwarowski, T. Bugaj, J.M. Florencio Jr., R. Silva, T. Kozłowski, J. Katlewicz, B. Madej, W. Michniewski, K. Buman, A. Straszyński, W.Rajski. He participated in music festivals: Warsaw Autumn, Vratislavia Cantans, Musica Polonia Nova. He performed with orchestras: Sinfonia Varsovia, Capella Bydgostiensis, Concerto Avenna, Capella Gedanensis.

In Febuary 2000 he sang the premiere spectacle “Tannhäuser” by Wagner in Baltic Opera. He was awarded by Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshal for that. In season 2000/01 he took part in Warsaw Chamber Opera tournée in France and Spain. He was singing Figaro’s part in Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”. In September 2002 he was invited by Grand Theatre in Łódź to perform as Figaro in Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” with an international cast directed by Claudio Desderi. In November 2005 he was invited by Teatro Massimo in Palermo to sing the title role in “King Roger” by Szymanowski. In 2006 he inaugurated 50th anniversary of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, he was singing Urok in “Manru” by Paderewski. This opera was recorded on DVD. In May 2007 he sang the title role in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” directed by M. Weiss. In October 2008 he made recording of Moniuszko’s “Paria” directed by W. Kunc. He took part in great “Traviata” spectacle, directed by W. Zawodziński. He sang Germont’s part there.

In December 2008 he inaugurated the opening of the new Kraków Opera building. He sang priest Grandier in Penderecki’s “The Devils of Loudun” directed by L. Adamik. In Febuary 2009 he took part in the premiere of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” directed by M. Weiss, where he was singing Count’s part. Now he is working with all opera theatres in Poland. Moreover, Leszek Skrla is professor at Academy of Music in Gdańsk, he is teaching young vocalists at Faculty of Vocal Music and Drama.
